Facebook just sent out invites to members of the press for an event this Wednesday. What they’re announcing we aren’t quite sure yet, but given that it starts at 10 am and continues through lunch, we’d imagine that it’s something significant.
Just last week the company announced a major overhaul of the photos product, something we’ve been expecting for some time. According to recent reports, the company was in the process of significantly upgrading the groups and events products as well. Will the company be turning events into a platform of their own? That’s something we’ve been expecting for some time, however nothing officially took place. We’ve also heard rumblings of a deeper partnership with Eventbrite, but haven’t been able to confirm that.
Could it be the release of a major upgrade to Facebook Pages, enabling communities to be instantly generated within websites? To be honest, we have no idea, but given that the company reportedly entered a 60-day “lockdown” state at the beginning of August, it would appear as though we are nearing the end of the lockdown phase. That means the other products should be upgraded, and Facebook could be expanding deeper integration with the Platform into the other products.
For now we’ll have to wait and see but I definitely enjoy speculating! Given that the invite specifically mentions “Event”, we’re expecting Facebook to announce the conversion of Facebook Events into a robust Platform.
