Two days from now, the official protocol for page tabs switches from Facebook Markup Language to iFrames. Wildfire is offering to ease the transition with a temporarily free application using the protocol to get people to click “like.”
Wildfire calls the application a “fan gate,” referring to the ability to customize a coupon or other promotions offered to those who click “like.”
The vendor hosts the content for you, and apparently will continue to do so after the free period ends in three months. The company hasn’t announced how much the tool will cost in the future, but presumably the freebie aims to get people interested in using the vendor’s other applications for Facebook.
Meanwhile, the vendor boasts a pretty easy installation for the fan gate:
It takes less than two minutes for you to get a fan gate up and running using Wildfire’s iFrame application. All you need to do is install the application and then click on ‘Edit Settings’. Here you can either upload an image to display as your landing page for fans or you can create a basic HTML landing page. After creating the landing page for fans, you can then create a different landing page for non-fans or, if you prefer not to have a fan gate, you can choose for fans and non-fans to see the same content.
We’ve already seen at least one other free application for enticing people to click “like,” and expect to see other vendors come out with similar freebies in order to entice page admins to subscribe for goodies that might command fees — including content that encourages repeat visits and engagement.
How do you entice people to click “like” on your page?
