WORLD CUP: France’s Blowout Of Switzerland Yields 25M Facebook Interactions

FranceFlagSoccerBall650The blowout 5-2 victory by France over Switzerland Friday at 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil resulted in some 25 million Facebook interactions (posts, comments, and likes) from around 14 million users of the social network, according to the Facebook Data Science Team.

The players who were the subject of the most buzz were Karim Benzema of France and Granit Xhaka of Switzerland, and the top five social moments during Friday’s match were:

  1. Blaise Matuidi scores after a giveaway in the 18th minute, giving France a 2-0 lead.
  2. The final whistle.
  3. Moussa Sissoko scores France’s fifth goal in the 73rd minute.
  4. Mathieu Valbuena scores in the 40th minute to give France a 3-0 lead.
  5. Benzema scores in the 67th minute to give France a 4-0 lead.

The top five demographic groups discussing the game were:

  1. Men 18 through 24.
  2. Men 25 through 34.
  3. Men 35 through 44.
  4. Women 18 through 24.
  5. Women 25 through 34.
