WORLD CUP: More Facebook Interactions After Week One Than Super Bowl, Olympics, Oscars Combined

FBWorldCupWeek1Wrap650As predicted by Adobe Social, in just its first week, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil has already generated more Facebook interactions (posts, comments, and likes) from more users than Super Bowl XLVIII, the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, and the 86th Annual Academy Awards combined, according to the Facebook Data Science Team.

From June 12 through 18, some 141 million Facebook users were responsible for about 459 million interactions. In comparison:

  • Super Bowl XLVIII totaled 185 million interactions from 50 million users.
  • The Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia, totaled 120 million interactions from 45 million users.
  • The Oscars totaled 25.4 million interactions from 11.3 million users.

The five top countries discussing the World Cup on Facebook, weighted for the size of the social network’s population in each country (daily active users):

  1. Brazil
  2. U.S.
  3. U.K.
  4. Indonesia
  5. Mexico
