Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Sends Mixed Signals On Facebook Phone

Will there be a Facebook phone, or won’t there? Remarks from Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the social network’s second-quarter earnings call started out hinting at yes, then ended with an emphatic no.

During the question-and-answer period after Facebook’s presentation, Zuckerberg was asked a general question about products Facebook might develop in the future, and he said:

We believe that all these consumer products people use can become social over time, but we can’t build these things ourselves. Over time, it might make sense to build some of these things ourselves.

Sounds promising for the Facebook phone, right? Not so fast. Moments later, he added:

Building out a whole phone really wouldn’t make much sense for us to do.

Readers: Do you think a Facebook phone makes any sense at all?
